Dear parents and carers
The last couple of weeks have been busy but also very enjoyable, top of the list was the long awaited Colour Run.
Thank you to all our families for your generous support of this P&C fundraiser. The money raised is directed back to school to support key initiatives, which in turn supports every child. A huge thank you to P&C President Bec Allpress and Vice President Jade Partridge and all the volunteers for organising the Colour Fun Run. From my perspective the adults appeared to have as much fun as the students.
The generosity of families has also extended to the Free Dress Day Thursday 17 November, and the donations for the Christmas Raffle. We were overwhelmed by all the marvellous donations and again the goodness of families. Remember to purchase your tickets to support this fundraiser.
Teachers have been busy preparing for 2023 and organising classes. When configuring classes teachers consider the learning and social/emotional needs of all students and how they would be best supported in their new class environment. Part of this preparation involves teachers working with students to discuss the emotions associated with transitioning to a new year level, teacher and peer group. Strategies to support this transition include students articulating their feelings, teachers validating these feelings and working with students to explore the emotional vocabulary. These emotions may include excitement, anxiety, nervousness and even fear. Teachers with the students identify and explore strategies to manage these emotions. Parents please communicate with class teachers any concerns you have so that these may be addressed in a timely manner. Part of this is also to have timelines for communication. Please see the schedule below so that parents too can be aware of up coming events.
- Meet the new teacher and class Wednesday 7 December from 12:00pm
- Newsletter Thursday 8 December sharing teaching staff for 2023
- Email of introduction to new Prep 2023 families Friday 9 December
- Email to students and families from new class teachers Friday 20 January 2023
- Parents deliver Book Packs to school Friday 20 January in preparation for first day of school
- School resumes Monday 23 January
As another new year comes around we have changes in our staffing. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the following staff and thank them for their contribution to Carbrook State School during their tenure.
Mrs Kerry-Ann Reese will be taking 6 months leave to act as Deputy Principal at Stretton State College. Mrs Reese will be sharing her expertise with Stretton College. We will miss her dedication and cheerful manner.
Ms Charlotte Minty, has requested and received a transfer to Ipswich East State School from the commencement of school 2023 to be closer to home. In addition to being a Year 6 teacher Ms Minty has been our PBL Coach. We thank Ms Minty for her contribution as teacher and coach.
Mrs Karin Geiger, will be taking one year of leave from teaching. Mrs Geiger has been on staff at Carbrook State School for approximately 29 years. In that time Mrs Geiger has had the pleasure of working with many of our staff and families. The SEP department will miss Mrs Geiger during her leave.
Mrs Michelle Pocock, has requested a transfer to the Gold Coast area for the commencement of school 2023. Mrs Pocock has been a teacher aide at Carbrook State School for 4 years. Mrs Pocock’s dedication and cheerful manner will be greatly missed by staff and students alike.
Miss Jessica Smith has been at Carbrook State School for 6 months, and during this time she has taught in Year 1 and delivered learning support with the Academic Performance Team. Miss Smith has accepted a teaching position at Springwood Road State School to teach Year 4 in 2023.

Year 6 – “ThinkUKnow” Cyber Safety Presentation
On Monday 14 November, students in Year 6 listened to the “ThinkUKnow” presentation from Logan District School Based Police Officers, Brad and Flo. “ThinkUKnow” teaches students strategies to stay safe while engaging in online spaces.
Topics discussed included:
- Be aware of what you share and to think before you hit send
- The risks of interacting with people online
- Safe gaming strategies, such as only playing with your “real life” friends online
- Help seeking behaviours if something goes wrong while online
We would like to give a special thank you to Brad and Flo for coming out to Carbrook State School to share their insights and expertise on how students can improve their personal cyber safety skills.

Thank you to all students who have borrowed, cared for and grown their mind through reading the school’s books during Term 4. The Top Borrower awards certainly gave some extra encouragement for students to borrow a new library book each week to read. Congratulations to the last ‘Top Borrowers’ of the year – Natalie PA and Isabella 1/ 2. All Top Borrowers throughout the term received a special certificate and a small prize. The real reward though is gained from the enjoyment of reading.
Unfortunately, it is the time of year for the library to have a little rest and a clean up for next year. That means borrowing for the year has ended and it is now time to return all those great reads back to the library. The library team would appreciate any school books to be returned to the library early next week. This will avoid students and parents receiving an overdue notice that will be sent home during week 9 for any outstanding library books.
Good news though – the library will continue to be open during second break. Students can enjoy the cool space of the library to make a Christmas tree out of an old library book, enjoy some quite reading or continue colouring in the Kindness Day poster.
Keep reading over the holidays. Hopefully students have books at home from Book Fair or Book Club to read. Otherwise join your local library – it’s free! Plus, if students choose their own books they will be more encouraged to join in for family story time or pick up a book themselves that will allow the authors words to run through the pages and into their own imagination.
Happy reading and Merry Christmas,
The Library Team.

Well we are at the end of another week! 2 weeks to go.
Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to our entire community for absolutely getting behind our first ever Colour Explosion Run. What an absolutely mammoth effort from each and every single one of you.
With just over $24,000 raised, we are speechless. We never ever anticipated that we could EVER raise this much money - we didn't even think we would hit our target of $15,000, we have said it one million times but we will say it again THANK YOU!!!'
A very special thank you goes to Josh T, Mason O and the entire Tooker family who were our highest fundraisers, and also 1B who led the whole way from start to finish being the highest fundraising class.

We have one final fundraiser left in the year which is our Christmas raffle. Tickets are limited so you've got to be in it to win it https://rafflelink.com.au/csspcxmaswrapup
Lastly, today we said our "See you laters" to Mrs Geiger, Ms Minty, Mrs Pocock, Miss Smith and of course our wonderful Mrs Reese. While I know there will be many hearts feeling heavy in our community, I would like to take this time to wish them all nothing but love and happiness in their new paths, you will all be very sorely missed by us all.
Thanks again to everyone for your support of our P&C this year.
