Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to what is already shaping up to be another busy term.
It was with pleasure and pride that I listened to the speeches of our prospective School Captains for 2024 on Thursday 12 October. The worthy candidates described their attributes of trustworthiness, commitment, impeccable attendance and demonstration of the school’s core values of being safe, respectful, responsible learners. Candidates recognised that they are role models for their peers and younger students. The speakers demonstrated their powers of persuasion and effective communication skills enthralling the audience with props, stories, jokes and PowerPoints.
Congratulations to these students for taking a responsible risk when nominating and stepping out of their comfort zone, setting goals and challenging themselves to be the best versions of themselves. They truly demonstrated a growth mindset.
I am extremely proud of this group of students and have confidence in this cohort to be our leaders in 2024. All leadership positions will be announced to the community in an upcoming newsletter.
Colour Run Explosion
It is with great anticipation that we count down to Carbrook’s Colour Run Explosion Thursday 19 October. We invite parents to be present and witness the joy and excitement of students as they participate in the Colour Run organised by our amazing P&C. Parents will be able view the run for the designated area at the centre of the oval.
The schedule for the day will be as follows -
1:00pm - 1:20pm Prep and Year 1
1:30pm - 1:50pm Years 2 and 3
2:00pm - 2:30pm Years 4, 5 and 6
Students require -
- $5 donation in order to participate
- $10 donation to order a prize
- White shirt, black shorts, old shoes and socks - wear this to school
- Towel, suncreen, clean and dry clothes to change into, this can be free dress
* 12:40pm - 12:55pm Parents may nominate students with severe allergies or asthma to run the colour run without colour (this is optional). Students will have the opportunity to run the obstacle course and be sprayed with water. These students will move away from this area to be supervised by a staff member for the remainder of the Colour Run. Please discuss with your child's teacher if you wish to access this option.
Please remember parents and carers that if you are taking photos of your child/ren that only they are in the photo as not all students have photo consent.
We are looking forward to a fun day.
Warm regards,
Sonya Wilson

A very warm welcome back to our last term of 2023. I trust you have all enjoyed the break and are refreshed for another term filled with learning and exciting school events to finish off the school year.
School reminders
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some of our expectations we have noticed over the last week that could be improved in our school.
School uniform
As a part of our school dress code, students are to wear black joggers and white socks with their Carbrook State School uniform. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct footwear to school to align with whole school expectations.

Before school supervision
There have been a number of students dropped to school before 8:30am supervision begins. As we have mentioned in previous communication, supervision for students does not commence until 8:30am each morning and we ask families to not drop their child/ren to school any earlier than this supervised time. We appreciate your support with this to ensure the safety of our students.
Curriculum Newsletter
In order to keep you informed of your child’s education, Term 4’s curriculum newsletters were emailed to families last Friday. Please take the time to read through this document, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Copies of the newsletters have been attached below as a reference if you cannot locate the email sent last week.
Warm regards,
Liz Cook
Year 5 Leadership
Student leadership holds a pivotal role in a student's educational journey, offering a valuable opportunity for personal growth, responsibility, and the development of crucial life skills. These young leaders, often seen as role models by their peers, learn to navigate responsibilities such as organising events, fostering teamwork, and representing the Carbrook Community. The process of Year 5 students completing speeches for leadership positions is a crucial step in this development. It not only encourages students to articulate their visions and ideas but also fosters their ability to communicate persuasively. This exercise teaches them the importance of democratic processes, as they campaign for their roles whilst promoting a sense of fairness and inclusion. Ultimately, Year 5 leadership experiences contribute to shaping well-rounded individuals who are better equipped to take on leadership roles in the future and make positive contributions to our Carbrook Community.
Some key dates in this process are as follows:
- Thursday 12 October – School Captain speeches
- Monday 16 October– 2024 School Captains announced to Year 5
- Friday 20 October – Sports Captain speeches
- Monday 23 October– Sports Captains announced to Year 5
- Thursday 26 October – All other Leadership Position speeches
- Monday 30 October – All other Leadership positions announced to Year 5
We wish the Year 5’s all the very best in their pursuit of leadership positions for 2024.
Year 5 team

Media artists have begun revealing their finished works to one another in our studio gallery sessions. Here is a small sample of the thought-provoking works. Utilising AI-generated backgrounds, real props and multiple apps to capture, process and combine images, students have been able to add their chosen sound effects to bring their visions of the future alive. Besides being lots of fun, students have learned an important lesson on how digital images can be easily manipulated, and that what we see isn’t always to be believed. I think you’ll agree the future certainly looks exciting!

Hello Carbrook families,
We can't believe it's Term 4 already, I suppose time flies when you’re having fun, and we are always having fun at YMCA. We kicked off the month of October with lots of exciting activities in our play based program, from exploring countries to celebrating Halloween. This month we have something in store for everyone.
We are also getting ready for exhilarating school holiday fun with our summer vacation care program, which comes out next month with more information on what activities, incursions and excursions we have planned for the children. To find out more, please email us at acb@ymcaqueensland.org.au and we will be happy to give you more details on how to enrol and make bookings.
For those of you in a rush, did you know that YMCA serves breakfast every morning from 6am to 7:45am with a variety of options to suit everyone’s taste. It’s a well-known fact that children learn better with a full stomach and we are always happy to provide breakfast, afternoon tea and a late snack to children each day.
