Principal Sonya Wilson

Dear parents and carers
Congratulations to the Carbrook State School Community on the success of the Colour Run. It was a wonderful event. It is always pleasing to see kids being kids and enjoying a fun activity. Thank you to the wonderful helpers on the day. A huge thank you to the community for their generosity. The final amount was exceptional.
See the final amount raised $22,884.55 and the leaderboard below.
Parents please remember to go online to finalise your prizes.

Before School
Reminder to students to bring items to lock their eyes into before school. If students are waiting in the undercover area from the time teacher aide supervision commences at 8:30am they will be required to sit quietly. In order for students to do this well, they need an activity to focus their attention. Suggestions for before school quiet activities include colouring-in, puzzles such as Rubik's cubes, UNO or other card games. It is a great opportunity to practise the skills of turn taking, sharing and working together while developing their stamina to maintain focus and attention.

Day for Daniel
Friday 27 October, 2023
Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. On this day students are encouraged to Wear Red, Educate and Donate.
Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. Schools and early learning centres conduct child safety education activities.
Monies raised from the gold coin donation today goes towards the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This is the Foundation’s main fundraiser each year. Funds raised go towards developing free resources and programs for parents, carers, and educators to teach children how to stay safe. Funds also contribute to supporting young victims of crime.
Today Carbrook State School raised $346.50.

World Teachers' Day
I would like to thank our teachers for their professionalism, dedication and commitment in educating, inspiring and nurturing our students here at Carbrook State School.
The profession of teaching is both challenging and rewarding. It requires hard work, a sharp mind and a big heart. It is a profession that plays a significant role in shaping both the future of our society, as well as our students’ futures.
This year’s theme of ‘Teaching – Where the Future Begins’ highlights the innovative and inspirational practices that teachers bring to their classrooms every day with the aim of creating better futures for their students.
Today also marks the end of State Education Week, the week-long celebration of state schools and our commitment to delivering quality education to all Queensland children.
Thank you to the Carbrook State School's P&C for their gifts and morning tea.
Regards
Sonya
QParents
What is QParents?
QParents is an online portal that provides a convenient new way for parents to communicate with their child’s school. As a parent, you can view your child’s student information and also submit changes to some of their details. The information that can be viewed includes timetables, report cards, attendance records and timely access to invoices and payment details. Parents can also update their child’s details, pay invoices online, and let the school know of changes to normal routine, such as when their child is unwell or has to leave early.
Why is it being introduced?
QParents has been designed to offer an online hub where parents can access essential information about their students, their activities and their performance at school. It saves time, and will provide anytime, anywhere accessibility using a PC, smart phone or tablet.
Thank you!
Thank you to all those parents who have already registered for QParents. We currently have 23% of our school registered and using QParents! We would love to see this percentage above 50% before the end of the year. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au

Deputy Principal Liz Cook

Dear parents,
It is hard to believe we are almost halfway through Term 4. It is timely that we remind all students of our behaviour expectations; be respectful, be responsible, be safe and be a learner.
Our PBL focus for weeks 5 and 6 will reinforce keeping hands and feet down and using the High 5 strategy.
It would be appreciated if parents reiterated our school expectations with child/ren at home, and reinforce the importance of using the ‘High Five’ strategy to respond to or solve conflicts.

Within the next week your child will receive their consolidation sprint goals feedback from the first sprint of this term. As you would be aware from previous communications, these sprints focussed in Maths (Prep in English), have helped to support focussed teaching on specific concepts identified through monitoring tools to boost students’ learning. Your child’s class teacher would have communicated with you earlier in the year how these goals would be sent home (either by paper copy or electronic in One Note). If you are unsure, contact your child’s class teacher for further information.
Enjoy the next fortnight.
Kind regards,
Liz Cook

My name is Sonia Gallagher. You will see me working around the school as an Inclusion teacher for the Year 3 cohort this term.
I am new to Queensland and have taught across several levels up to Year 3. A lot of my experience has been teaching Year 2 students in South Australia for the past 5 years.
During this term I will be supporting students learning within their classes for English, Maths and Science. For English I will support a small reading group learning about persuasive text. This consists of reading and examining advertisements to determine what the article is trying to persuade them to do.
Play is the Way is a social and emotional methodology using physically interactive games and activities. This will be taught during our movement breaks. I will focus on the golden rule which is ‘TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE THEM TO TREAT YOU’.
I will also focus on ‘PURSUE YOUR PERSONAL BEST NO MATTER WHO YOU WORK WITH’ meaning we don’t come to school to be better than others, we come to school to better ourselves by being able to work with others.
These will be the focus through conversations while interacting through games.
I am really enjoying getting to know the students and settling into a new environment. I have felt very welcomed to the school.

STEM Sheri Walls

Year 4 Pinball Wizards!
Our amazing Year 4 students have been up to some fun and exciting projects this term.
The STEM room turned into mini pinball arcades! The students have been hard at work, not just playing, but designing and making their very own pinball machines. And boy, have they done an incredible job!
Before diving in, the students put on their thinking caps. They drew designs and discussed what features make a pinball machine fun. Using everyday items like cardboard, rubber bands, and marbles, they started gathering what they needed to bring their designs to life. They cut, painted, and assembled. Each pinball machine becoming a unique piece of art and engineering. Students tested their creations, making tweaks here and there to ensure the perfect game experience.
Why Pinball Machines?
You might be wondering, why pinball? Well, it's not just about play. This project taught the students about physics (how the ball moves), engineering (how to build a sturdy machine), and creativity (designing fun and unique game boards). Plus, it was a great way for them to work together and learn from each other.
I’m so proud of the Year 4 students, and we'd love for you to see their work.
Congratulations to the budding designers and engineers in Year 4!

Year 3BM Sarah Bingham & Christie McDonald
In Year 3, we have been learning about states of matter and investigating the properties of solids and liquids. Today, to test our scientific understanding, we explored a mystery mixture… Oobleck. We poked, prodded, squished, rolled and dug our fingers into the mystery mixture. We asked ourselves questions such as ‘does it have a fixed shape? Is it flowing? How is it changing when we apply force?’ These questions helped us to try and narrow down whether the mystery Oobleck mixture was a solid or a liquid. The conclusion we drew was that it was both! When we applied force, the Oobleck acted as a solid. We could hold it in our hands and it had a fixed shape. When we did not apply force, the Oobleck acted as a liquid. When we held it gently, it flowed and oozed between our fingers. 3BM loved the chance to get their hands into some Science today with this simple Oobleck (water and cornflour) mixture.
