First of all, thank you for the warm welcome I’ve had at Carbrook State School. What a special community to have the privilege of being a part of! It has been great getting to know the staff, students and families at Carbrook. I understand that the change of Principal happened quickly, it has been fast for everyone. Mr Winrow has been asked to undertake a regional research project and the duration of this is unknown. It may only be a couple of months or it could extend well beyond that depending on what arises from his work. In the meantime, it is my pleasure to take on the role of Principal and continue to progress the work of the school and work with staff and families. I have come from Norfolk Village State School as Deputy Principal and also acting Principal for 13 months. I work alongside staff and families in the best interests of students and I’m looking forward to getting to know Carbrook families over the coming weeks.
We recently welcomed back Mrs Kerry-Ann Reese who has been on extended leave. It has been great to have her back and I thank Mrs Carson who supported in the Deputy Principal role during Mrs Reese’s absence. We also welcome Mr Judd Mackie to our school. Mr Mackie is a Deputy Principal who will be with us for the remainder of the term. I know that he has also felt welcomed into the school community and has been enjoying his time getting to know students as well. Welcome Mr Mackie.
Last week we had our Book Week Dress Up Day. Thank you to all of the parents who came along to the parade. It was a fun morning! If you weren’t able to make it, please have a look at the videos on our Facebook page. Thank you for the effort that families went to with costumes – they were amazing! Well done parents and thank you for supporting this special event at our school.
This week we had our Junior Sports Day. Thank you to the parents who were able to come along and support. Thank you to Mrs Dillon for her hard work and preparation to organise this event for our students. Thank you too to all of our staff and volunteers who supported on the day with running events and assisting students. I’m sure that students and parents also shared their appreciation with Mrs Dillon and our staff as well. It was great to see our students get into the spirit of the day and show a ‘have a go’ attitude, encourage each other and have fun.
Last week our school also acknowledged all of our non-teaching staff. There is an amazing team of staff at our school who ensure that our school runs smoothly and that our students are supported and have access to everything they need. So thank you to our Teacher-Aides, Admin Staff, Support Staff, Grounds Officer and Cleaners. They do an incredible job in our school every single day and their efforts don’t go unnoticed.
Thank you to our P&C and parent volunteers for running our Father’s Day stall this week. Students were very excited to be able to go shopping for special gifts at school. Our P&C are amazing! Wishing all of the Dads and positive male role models in our school community a Happy Father’s Day for Sunday.
A reminder that our staff and the leadership team are more than happy to meet with parents. Please contact the staff member you wish to meet with via email or a phone call to the front office and make a time to meet with the staff member that works for both parties. All staff have commitments in and out of school so please understand that the person you wish to speak with may not be available in the moment and that making an appointment for longer conversations is best. Of course, a quick check in at classrooms or in the school grounds is more than ok, this reminder is in regards to conversations that may need longer to talk through.
We are seeking feedback from our current Prep-Year 5 parents regarding camps from 2025. Parent feedback, coupled with staff feedback, will inform decision making about our camp offerings in the future. Please use the link that was emailed home earlier in the week.
Bookings for Parent-Teacher interviews are now open. This is a great opportunity to check in with how your child is progressing at school. I’m also looking forward to meeting parents at those interviews in the hall. If you haven’t booked a time yet, please do so as soon as you are able.
Don’t forget that tomorrow is a Student Free Day and that there will be no staff on site tomorrow. Students should not come to school tomorrow. Our Out of School Hours Care providers, YMCA, are running a vacation care day tomorrow for families requiring their services and will be operating for their usual hours of 6:00am-6:00pm. They will be running a special Bikes and Scooters Day. Please contact YMCA directly for more information regarding their program for the Student Free Day.
Thank you once again for the warm welcome. I am very grateful to be working at such a special school with an amazing staff.
