Dear Carbrook Families
It is hard to believe that we’re at the end of Term 3 and heading into the last term of 2024 with only 11 more school weeks for this year.
Please remember that the last day of term is Friday 13 September and the first day of Term 4 is Monday 30 September. There is also a public holiday on Monday 7 October in Week 2 of Term 4.
I remind families that the school finish time is 3:00pm. Unfortunately, every afternoon we still have a large group of students who haven’t been picked up by 3:30pm and sometimes much later than that, especially on Friday afternoons. Whilst we understand that sometimes parents can get held up in unforeseen traffic, these incidents should be rare. Our staff also have commitments after school for their work with meetings and professional development as well as for their own families and personal appointments. I would appreciate it if parents could do their best to pick up their children on time at the end of the school day. We have YMCA operating in our school who provide after school care and the enrolment process is very easy. Please enrol your children with YMCA if you can’t collect your children at 3:00pm.

As we wrap up the term, I would like to thank all of our parents who have taken the opportunity to participate in as many school events as possible. It has been great to see so many parents at our recent parent-teacher interviews, Bookweek Parade, Junior Sports Day, Father’s Day stall etc. We value working with our families as an authentic school community.
I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our P&C. Our P&C are all parent volunteers who go out of their way to put on special events and fundraising activities for our school community. To all of our parent volunteers, including our P&C, thank you for all that you do and for our recent Pie Day and Father’s Day stall. We are very much looking forward to the Colour Run next term! Our new mural also looks amazing in the undercover area, thank you for supporting that project as well.
Our teachers have recently engaged in planning days to prepare for Term 4. Each teaching team has been offline for a day to work with our Head of Curriculum, Ms Jess Carson to plan for Term 4. We are looking forward to some new and exciting English units with some amazing new texts for our students to explore.
Please find in the link below for Carbrook State School's updated Student Code of Conduct 2024 - 2027. This document has also been uploaded to Carbrook State School's website.
I wish our staff and students a safe break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 4.

This term, Carbrook staff have been engaging with the updated Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. This curriculum aims to develop successful learners who are confident, creative, and informed individuals, prepared to contribute to society. It establishes clear learning goals for all students, regardless of where they live or which school they attend.
The revised Australian Curriculum incorporates the latest research, teaching methods, and global educational trends. Through its implementation at Carbrook State School, we are committed to providing our students with the highest quality learning experiences and opportunities for growth. Our approach emphasizes critical and creative thinking, diverse perspectives, and digital literacy to equip students with essential skills for navigating the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Carbrook State School teachers are using the revised curriculum to plan engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Throughout 2024, staff have been reflecting on current practices, analyzing changes, and understanding the implications of curriculum adjustments across different year levels. Collaboration among teachers has been crucial in developing rigorous, relevant, and future-focused teaching strategies.
Next term, we will introduce new units of work in English and Mathematics, while continuing to plan, revise, and modernize content across all subject areas. Through these efforts, we remain committed to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and essential life skills, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching educational journey for all our students.

Sports News
Cross Country – Tuesday 15 October 2024
After the terrible luck we had in Term 1 with our Cross Country, we have locked in another date for Term 4 – Tuesday 15 October. Parents are invited to attend our annual Cross Country event. Please note that the distances will be shortened due to the hotter weather at the end of the year.
Races will start at 9:10am and run until 11am. We will begin with our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students, who will be completing their course around the oval.
Our Year 3 to 6 students will be completing the larger school course. Students are encouraged to wear their sports house colours. They need to remember to bring a hat and a water bottle. Please ensure that sunscreen is applied at home before coming to school.

Library News
What a term in the library. First Book Fair and then Book Week!
Thank you to every single person big and small that was a part of getting their child / children ready for Book Week. Whether it was chopping off lion tails to make a capybara costume, coordinating with a team of friends to be characters from Inside Out, painting whole faces to be crayons or recycling an old costume, we would like to say, thank you! All of these tireless efforts made this year’s Book Week Parade the best parade ever with so many amazing characters.

The Book Week Parade was certainly the highlight of the week but many other activities have also been part of Book Week at Carbrook State School.
Books on Blankets was a big hit with many students sitting around the school, first and second break to enjoy story time.

Emoji Garden overgrew with many students designing their own character emoji from their favourite story character.
Congratulations to Vida from Grade 5 whose emoji was randomly picked from the garden, winning her a Reading is Magic library bag filled with goodies.

Surf Life Saving Raby Bay
This week Carbrook State School's Prep, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 classes were treated to a Surf Awareness day at the Raby Bay foreshore. This day was an interactive beach day run by Surf Life Saving Queensland. All the students were given the opportunity to participate in activities such as capture the flag, wading relays, rescue tube drills, sponge and bucket challenges, dolphin diving and paddle boarding. The life savers presenters talked about the various beach safety flags and signs. They also had an introductory course in First Aid, learning about the DRSABCD acronym and emergency safety processes. The students finished their day with some team building games and activities. A great experience for everyone.
This is always a fantastic excursion enjoyed by all and importantly providing essential water safety information for all.

Fire Safety Visit
Last week, the lower school had their annual visit from our local Fire Brigade. We discussed the importance of knowing your address, having a safety plan, smoke detectors and also some catchy phrases to help us if we are ever in a fire emergency. The firemen showed us what they have to wear to protect themselves when on duty fighting fires and also spoke to us through their masks explaining how it changes what they sound like when they speak. We got up close to check out the fire truck and were super lucky that every student got to experience using the fire hose out onto the oval! Remember, if there is a fire emergency phone triple zero, stop, drop and roll if your clothing is on fire or get down low and go, go, go to get out of the building!
