Carbrook State School's Cross Country is on Tuesday 15 October 2024.
Parents are invited to attend our annual Cross Country event. Please note that the distances will be shortened due to the hotter weather at the end of the year.
Races will start at 9:10am and run until 11am. We will begin with our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students, who will be completing their course around the oval.
Our Year 3 to 6 students will be completing the larger school course. Students are encouraged to wear their sports house colours. They need to remember to bring a hat and a water bottle. Please ensure that sunscreen is applied at home before coming to school.

Welcome to Term 4!
Firstly, congratulations to our Year 6 students for their highly successful and popular Carbrook Carnivale which they held on Tuesday as a culmination of their HASS unit of work. They did such a great job of organising all of the games and activities. It was extremely impressive!
As you are aware, we have 2 Deputy Principals at our school this semester and they are each looking after different sectors in our school. Please make note of the year levels aligned to each Deputy Principal should you need to contact them:
- Prep, Year 1, Year 2 – Mrs Kerry-Ann Reese
- Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 – Mr Judd Mackie
Please be advised that our whole staff will be participating in a professional development session after school on Wednesday 23 October. The following will occur as a result on 23 October only:
- Our administration office will close at 3:10pm
- All phone calls will be redirected to our answering service
- There will be no staff on duty after 3:10pm
- Any students who have not been collected by 3:10pm will be taken to the undercover area outside our library. Parents arriving to pick up their children after 3:10pm will need to park their car and walk into our school to collect their children from the library. A staff member will be monitoring late pick-ups from the library. Parents who regularly collect their children after 3:10pm may wish to consider after school care on this day.
We are looking forward to this opportunity for our staff to engage in this training session.
At the end of last term we surveyed families and staff about camps to inform our planning for 2025 and beyond. The parent and staff feedback were exactly the same which has been helpful for our decision-making. Parent information also showed that costs were a factor as well as age and readiness of students. Staff information showed that time away from their own families was a significant factor. As a result of these surveys planning is underway for next year for the following:
- Year 4 – 2 day, 1 night experience
- Year 5 – 3 day, 2 night experience
- Year 6 – 3 day, 2 night experience
A reminder about our P&C’s upcoming Colour Run. It is our P&C’s biggest fundraiser of the year and they are looking for the support of our community to help raise funds to support our amazing school. Don’t forget to add the date to your calendars and see the fundraising information that has come from our P&C.
See this link for a Principal’s Update which was emailed to all families last week.
We’re looking forward to another great term at Carbrook State School.
Please find attached a letter from Fiona Keswell, Principal. This was emailed to all parents on Thursday 3 October 2024.

Life Education
Did you know that puberty can start as young as 8 years of age for some children? It is a time of big changes and we can help children cope with puberty by giving them facts, reassurance and support. Young people need to feel OK about their changing bodies during puberty and having the facts provides that support. Children need to know it is an important and exciting stage of life.
Last week, students in Years 5 and 6 engaged in a Talk About Session about Puberty delivered by Life Ed Queensland. This provided students with important information and age-appropriate content about Puberty. All Talk About It session content is aligned with the Health and Physical Education Australian Curriculum.
Each year we offer this program to all students in Years 5 and 6. We thank Life Ed Queensland for supporting our students to be well informed in this space.
Day for Daniel
On Friday 25 October, 2024, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe.
Parents, carers and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety.
We invite all members of the school community to wear red on this day. This could be a red t-shirt, red ribbon, red socks. Wearing something red will help bring the day to the forefront for our community and students.
Lost and Found

Please encourage your children to:
- Bring a library bag.
