Issue 17 Friday 25 October 2024
Principal Fiona Keswell
Today we acknowledge World Teacher’s Day and celebrate our amazing teaching staff at Carbrook State School. The role of a teacher is complex and looks very different to how it was when we, as adults, went to school. Our dedicated staff go above and beyond everyday to support the learning and development of our young people. Wishing all of our teaching staff a very special day. Thank you to the families who acknowledged our staff today and showed appreciation for their hard work.
Last week I introduced ‘Fab Work Friday’ where students have the opportunity to share work that they are proud of with me. It could be an acknowledgement of achievement, effort, improvement, confidence or creativity. I know that this is going to become one of my favourite times of the week! It was a joy to celebrate learning and talk with our students about their pride in their success. Each week the photos will be shared on our Facebook page.
We are endeavouring to showcase more celebrations of student success on our Facebook page and share these achievements with our community. Next week we’ll trial sharing photos of our Students of the Week.
We are very much looking forward to our Colour Run, although I’m not much looking forward to being slimed! This will be a great event and I thank our P&C for their organisation and fundraising efforts. Please be reminded to register and complete consent forms for the Colour Run through QParents. Thank you P&C!
This week we welcomed two federal members of parliament who each have very important roles in parliament, the Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Milton Dick MP and Chief Opposition Whip, Bert van Manen MP. They spoke to our Year 6 students about their roles, their service to communities and our nation and about how parliament works. It was a very informative and special visit. Head to our Facebook page to see photos.

Swimming Information
As part of our Physical Education and Health Program, Carbrook State School has organised a Learn to Swim program for all students from Prep to Year 6 this year.
This important program aims to familiarize children with the water and introduce them to swimming skills suited to their level. The program will be conducted in weeks 9 and 10 of this term with qualified swim instructors at YMCA at Victoria Point.
An online consent form has also been sent to all families involved in this excursion. For those parents who are already on QParents, the online consent form can be completed electronically. As per the instructions included, we ask all other families to register for QParents, so you can also complete the form electronically. If you are unable to access QParents, please see Carbrook Office staff to complete the permission form in person.
The total cost of this program is $31.00 which includes 5 x 30 minute lessons, transport to and from YMCA and pool entry. All students participating in this program are required to travel by bus, which will shuttle each group between Carbrook State School and YMCA Aquatic & Fitness Centre Victoria Point, 128 Link Rd Victoria Point. This shuttle service requires us to adhere to a very strict time schedule to ensure all classes receive equal lesson time.
Consent and Payment must be received no later than Friday 15 November, 2024 for students to attend.
No late payments will be accepted after this date.
To ensure student needs are catered for and safe practices can be placed around students, the YMCA has asked that a Swimming Ability Form be completed. This has been sent home in hard copy with your child today. This form MUST be completed and returned to Mrs Dillon by Monday 11 November, 2024.
Students will attend swimming lessons every school day for one week. Each lesson runs for approximately 30 minutes. Please see below the lesson times for each class:
Week 9 – Monday 25 November to Friday 29 November
Classes: 6PT (9:00am), 4CM (9:30am), 3AB (10:00am), 1CD (10:30am), 6TS (11:30am), 4KS (12:00pm), 3CC (12:30pm), 1SL (1:00pm)

At the beginning of the program students will be organised into small groups. These groups will be determined by student ability from beginner to advanced swimmers. This means that the needs of each child can be better managed. Each group will have a designated qualified swim instructor with them at all times. The swimming program focuses on building confidence in the water, developing and maintaining swimming strokes and teaching safety around water. These are vital skills which all Australian children need.
