It is hard to believe that there are only 3 more school weeks in 2024!
Week 11
A reminder about Week 11: Earlier this year, the Minister for Education recognised that there is an additional week of student attendance in the school year - this year has 41 weeks of student attendance while the student school year is generally 40 weeks in duration. Additionally, it is a requirement that a new version of the Australian Curriculum is implemented in Queensland state schools next year. Consequently, in Week 11 we will be running an alternate program of activities for students which will provide teachers with time to develop and co-construct units of work for 2025 aligned to the new curriculum. Also during Week 11 there will be some minor works happening in some classrooms. This means that during Week 11, students may not have their regular teacher or be in their regular classroom. Teaching and learning will be completed by the end of Week 10 and assessment and reporting will also be completed by that time as will all school events. Students will participate in a range of activities to keep them engaged across Week 11.
2025 Planning
Please be advised that we are not accepting any further parent requests for us to consider in our 2025 class formations. This process has commenced. Please be advised that requests are considerations only and not guarantees. Forming future classes is a very complex process with the diverse needs of all students considered to create balanced classes. Parent requests are not guarantees, and in a small school such as ours, they are very difficult to accommodate with only having 2 classes per year level in most cohorts. By the time we take into account the learning needs of all students, social dynamics and requests from parents, it becomes very challenging. Requests from different families also don’t always align eg. when one parent requests us to consider placing their child with another specific child but another family has requested us to consider separating those students. Priority is given to creating balanced classes of learners and our staff are best placed to make these decisions. Our focus is always on teaching and learning first.
Assembly in Week 9
Please be advised that there is no assembly on Monday 25 November 2024 due to swimming lessons.
Casual Cleaners
We are seeking casual and relief cleaners. If any parent wishes to express an interest in these positions, please contact our front office team. A current valid Blue Card is essential.
Bus timetable changes
Included in this newsletter is information about changes to bus services in 2025. If your child catches a bus please take note of any changes that may impact your family.
Shovember
I would like to congratulate our Arts teaching team: Mrs Dillon, Mrs Boobyer, Mr Bushell and Ms Frost for a very successful ‘Showvember’ event last Thursday evening. Congratulations to all students who participated and showed off their creative talents and skills. Thank you to our staff for providing this event for our community and thank you to the parents of our performing arts students who came along.
Swimming Reminders
A reminder that our swimming program commences next week. Please revisit the information that all parents have received about the program and how to be prepared. A key reminder is about what is required:
What to bring: (Please make sure all items are clearly named)
- Swimmers/togs
- Sun shirt (compulsory)
- Swimming cap (compulsory). Please write your child’s name on the front of the cap in large letters so it is very visible to the instructors. The pool has a ‘no cap – no swim policy’ All students must wear a cap while swimming.
- Roll-on Sunscreen (applied before lessons)
- Towel
- Thongs to walk to and from the school/pool/bus
- Goggles (optional)
If you have any questions about swimming, please contact your child’s teacher.

Library News
![](https://carbrookss.schoolzineplus.com/_file/media/3928/lib.jpg)
Unfortunately, it is the time of year for our library books to have a little rest and get cleaned up for next year. That means borrowing for the year has ended and it is now time to return all those great reads back to the library. The library team would appreciate any school books to be returned to the library now. This will avoid students and parents receiving an overdue notice that will be sent home during Week 9 for any outstanding library books.
Hopefully students have plenty of books at home from Book Fair or Book Club to read over the holidays. Otherwise join your local library – it’s free! If students choose their own books, they will be more encouraged to join in for family story time or pick up a book themselves that will allow the author's words to run through the pages and into their own imagination.
Happy reading
