Issue 3 Friday 7 March 2024
Principal Mark Winrow

I know that it has been a very difficult time for many of our families, with many still without power and essential services. Please know that we are here to support you and your children. I encourage you to reach out if you do require our support. I am pleased that we escaped any serious injuries.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during our extended closure. The safety of our students, staff and community is my highest priority, so it was important to be confident our school was safe before returning. You will see there is a significant amount of temporary fencing in our grounds at present. The purpose of this fencing is to restrict access to the areas identified as possibly contaminated. It will remain in place until the area has been assessed as safe.
It is important that I acknowledge our cleaning and grounds staff for their extra efforts in returning our school to its usual impeccable state following cyclone Alfred. While there are still a few tasks to be completed, they worked hard to make the school presentable and safe. I would also like to thank the other members of our team who checked-in on the school, helped keeping everyone informed and assisted in getting it reopened.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge the incredible job Kerry-Ann Reese did during my extended sick leave. While I find it very difficult being away from school, my anxiety is eased knowing that it runs smoothly in my absence. We truly have a wonderful team at Carbrook State School who are totally dedicated to the learning and wellbeing of students.
Deputy Principal Kerry-Ann Reese

We hope this email finds you and your families safe and well following the impact of Cyclone Alfred. Our thoughts have been with all those affected, and we are grateful to have welcomed all our students back to school.
As we settle back into routine, we are looking forward to celebrating Harmony Day next Friday, March 21st. This special day promotes inclusivity, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone. To mark the occasion, students are encouraged to wear orange on the day and will engage in some special activities on the day. Please see attached the Harmony Day poster competition that students can enter in for their chance to win a prize.
Harmony Day also coincides with our Years 4–6 Cross Country event. Those in Years 4–6 may also wear their house colours along with a touch of orange if they wish or vice-versa.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to celebrating Harmony Day in 2025.
