This week I have had the pleasure of sharing in the culmination of a semester’s learning with classes. It has been a delight to hear the enthusiasm and pride in the students as they explain all they have learned, and to hear them set goals for next term and beyond based on the feedback from their teachers. It is always a joy when students are proud of their achievements.
Year 4 Thunderbird Park Excursion
It was a particular thrill to be visited by some year 4 reluctant writers this week who proudly shared their lengthy and detailed recounts of their trip to Thunderbird Park. They became very animated when given the chance to share their learning and the treasures they found. Thank you to the staff for making this opportunity available to them.
Playgrounds Out of Bounds
A reminder to our families that our playgrounds are out of bounds before and after school. The playgrounds are used by the YMCA at these times as part of their program so cannot be used by our students and their siblings. Thank you for your understanding and support of this expectation.
Report Cards
All students will have received their semester 1 report card. The previous newsletter explained how this report card will look different to previous reports, in keeping with the new version of the Australian Curriculum. I encourage families to discuss their child’s report with them by celebrating the highlights and setting goals for next semester. Remember, a C means that your child is achieving what is expected of every student in their year level across Australia, which is worth celebrating. I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher early next term with any concerns you have regarding report cards.
Staffing Changes
We welcome Samantha Kupfer to our staff. Samantha will be providing all classes with follow-up lessons in our Play is the Way social skilling program each Monday and Tuesday. This is a great opportunity for our children to continue their personal and social capabilities. She will also be taking the position of District Relief Teacher on Wednesdays.
Finally, we farewell Mr Judd Mackie, our Year 3-6 Deputy Principal who has been supporting us since Term 3 2024. Mr Mackie returns to his position at Yarrabilba State School. I wish to thank Mr Mackie for the value he added to our school and wish him the very best on his return to Yarrabilba. I know there will be many who will miss him.
Happy Holidays
I wish all our families a happy and safe holiday. I hope you all manage to stay warm and enjoy some quality time together. Our staff will be using the Winter break to rest and recover and prepare for the next semester. Please be reminded of staff’s right to switch off and disconnect over the holidays. They work tirelessly through the semester and have earned their break. I am looking forward to another successful semester when we return. Tag, you’re it!

End of Term Wrap-Up – Term 2, 2025
As we reach the end of Term 2, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a busy, rewarding, and productive term for our students, staff, and school community.
This term has seen our students working collaboratively, growing in curiosity, being courageous and caring for their learning and school. From engaging in classroom learning to excursions, sporting events, cultural celebrations, and community days – it has been a term filled with rich experiences that have helped build both skills and strong relationships.
A special thank you goes to our dedicated teaching and support staff, who continue to go above and beyond to provide inclusive, engaging, and challenging learning environments. Their commitment and care for our students is evident in every corner of the school.
We also extend our appreciation to our parents and carers and our school P&C. Your partnership and support are vital in helping us provide the best possible education and wellbeing outcomes for our students. Whether you’ve attended events, helped with P&C fundraisers, or simply offered encouragement from home – we thank you.
As we head into the school holidays, we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to rest and recharge. We look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready for another great term of learning and growth in Term 3. Please see below the calendar of events for Term 3.

Library News
What a Tremendous Term 2 in the Library!
Wow, Carbrook families, what an absolutely phenomenal Term 2 we've had in the library. It was a whirlwind of reading, learning and celebrating.
We kicked off the term with a bang, launching the annual Premier's Reading Challenge. Our students dived into some fantastic books, reading with enthusiasm both in class and independently. We even had a special visit from none other than State Premier David Crisafulli and Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek – how cool is that? Their visit highlighted the importance of literacy and we were so proud to see our students engaging so wonderfully. Keep an eye out in Term 3 for those well-deserved Certificates of Achievement and a huge shout-out to the teachers who nominated students for book prizes based on their enthusiasm for reading.

ANZAC Day saw a moving and interactive display in the library, where students could learn, read, draw and colour to understand the significance of this important National commemoration. Then came the joy of National Simultaneous Storytime, where our whole school gathered in the hall for a beautiful reading of The Truck Cat. This heart-warming story inspired our "Home is Everywhere" tower, a vibrant display where students drew what gives them a sense of belonging. Each drawing became a "window," showcasing that we may all be different but we all belong to the caring Carbrook Community. We also continued our tradition of spreading kindness by giving out even more books to students who showed incredible acts of compassion around the school.

Next up, National Reconciliation Week (NRW) was a powerful and engaging time. Students who visited the library had a variety of hands-on activities to choose from, including creating colourful loom band and pony bead bracelets in the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, designing First Nations keyrings, and enjoying special colouring and drawing pages. NRW was then topped off with an unforgettable visit from the talented author, Gregg Dreise. Gregg's passion for storytelling was infectious, and his engaging visit was loved by every single student and staff member. We were even able to give away some of Gregg's pre-purchased and signed books to some very lucky students – what a treat.

It truly was a jam-packed Term 2, filled with so many incredible moments of learning, creativity and community spirit. And guess what? There's no rest for the wicked (or for our amazing library) because Term 3 is going to be just as exciting.
Get Ready for an Adventurous Term 3!
Hold onto your hats, Carbrook families, because Term 3 is bursting with even more fun and adventures in the library.
We'll be kicking off the term with meaningful NAIDOC Week activities, giving our students more opportunities to recognise the rich history, vibrant culture, and incredible achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
But the main event for the library (drumroll please) will, of course be Book Week, running from August 18th to August 22nd. Get ready for lots of activities, exciting competitions and amazing prizes throughout the week. The grand finale will be our spectacular Book Dress Up Parade on Friday, August 22nd! This year's theme for Book Week is "Book an Adventure," so you have all school holidays to brainstorm and create those incredibly adventurous costumes. Let your imaginations run wild.
Following hot on the heels of Book Week will be Carbrook State School's annual Book Fair, from August 27th to August 29th. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to visit the fair, browse through a wonderful selection of books, and create their very own wish lists. The Book Fair is the library's main fundraiser for the year and it gives our school the chance to purchase lots and lots of new books that our students will be eager to read! The Book Fair will also be open late during our Celebration of Learning, so you'll have extra time to explore.
Stay tuned for more information about all these exciting events next term. We can't wait to share more incredible library moments with your children. What adventure will your child book next?
