Carbrook State School Student Dress Code

Just a reminder that all items of clothing should be mark with your child's name and if possible their class.
If any item of clothing is found we try and make sure it goes back to that child's class the next day.
Unfortunately we have pieces of clothing that don't have names on and therefore get lost around the school.
Please feel free to check out the lost property rack outside the Administration door.
Principal Mark Winrow

Firstly, I would like to thank our community for their support of our teachers who participated in protected industrial action this week. I realise the 24 hour work stoppage impacted families, but appreciated the many messages of support we received for our incredible teaching staff. I had the honour of sharing the remarkable impact our teachers have had on your children with our P&C this week and wanted to share it with you as a testament to their value.
This week we completed the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) which collates and reports the students in our school who have a disability, and the level of adjustments required to ensure they can access their learning. More than 41% of our students have a diagnosed or imputed disability. This is nearly double the National average of 24% and highlights the level of complexity our teachers manage each and every day. Despite this complexity, our students achieved the following results in semester 1.

These results demonstrate that the staff at our school work very hard to provide engaging and high quality learning experiences for your children. They are particularly pleasing given we have also embarked on a new way of explicitly teaching reading which is a steep learning curve for teachers, teacher aides and students.
I know you will join me in congratulating our staff on their commitment to your children and see the value they add.
Brisbane Youth Parliament
Today I am taking 6 of our student leaders to participate in the Brisbane South Youth Parliament at Parliament House. This program gives our leaders the opportunity to debate motions in the Chamber being led by Queensland Members of the House. Our leaders have prepared speeches to debate the raised motions which they will deliver in the Chamber, in line with Parliamentary Protocols. It is a great opportunity for them to see politics in action.
Behaviour Expectations
Last term, carried into this term, we have collaboratively redeveloped our behaviour expectations for key areas and times at school, namely, before school, eating time, entering classrooms, transitions and whole body listening. This refocussed effort has had a positive impact. Our data tells us our next area to focus is on physical aggression, namely using the high 5 strategy and being able to lose graciously.
A deep dive into our behaviour data has highlighted that many incidents of physical aggression occur when students become dysregulated if they lose a game. They immediately assume they lost because they perceive it was unfair (eg being targeted in a game of gang-up tiggy when the aim of the game is to work together to tag every player). This is a cultural shift we need to make together and it will take time. We ask that parents focus on this at home by playing games and explicitly teaching children that losing is part of the game that everyone will experience.
Bullying No Way Week
Next week we will be joining many schools nationally to recognise Bullying No Way Week. We have explicit lessons planned for each day with a morning of activities, similar to Heart of Carbrook Day, planned for Thursday. The intent of the week is to teach our community what bullying is and what it is isn’t, the impact bullying behaviour has and empower our students to take a stand against bullying. The theme for this year is Be Bold, Be Kind, Speak Up.
School Opinion Survey
Parents are encouraged to complete the school opinion survey. They will have received an invitation to complete the survey via email. Our parent response rate is currently sitting at 14% which unfortunately means our results will only reflect the opinions of a few of our parents.
Sick Leave
Sadly, I will be taking some more sick leave in the coming weeks. I have been waiting for a shoulder surgery for over 2 years and have finally had a date set for 20 August. I will likely be away until 12 September. I deeply apologise for taking more time off, but I cannot wait. This surgery was originally planned for before I even started at Carbrook but has been postponed 3 times due to complications. I am working with Region to ensure a suitable replacement that will cause the least disruption to the school.
Deputy Principal Kerry-Ann Reese

Next week, Tuesday 12 August - Friday 15 August, we will be putting the spotlight on bullying during the National Week Against Bullying.
As part of our continued commitment to fostering a safe and positive school environment, we will be hosting a Bullying No Way community event on
Thursday, 14 August from 9:15am to 10:15am.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and promote respectful relationships and kindness within our school and wider community.
We wish to invite parents and carers to attend this event and engage in meaningful activities that reflect the key messages of the Bullying No Way initiative.
On this day we ask students to wear PURPLE.
We look forward to seeing our community come together to promote the message - Bullying No Way!

SCHOOL LOCKER Uniform prices as of 1 August 2025
25 July 2025
Dear Parents
The School Locker is writing to inform you that, effective 1 October 2025, they will be applying a 4% increase to the retail price across all uniform items.
This increase helps offset the ongoing impact of rising operational and supply chain costs, including increases in raw materials, production, freight, and broader inflationary pressures.
While they have historically taken a tailored approach to price changes, current conditions necessitate a more consistent adjustment in line with the national Consumer Price Index.
Below this letter is an updated price list, which will take effect across all retail channels from 1 October 2025.
