Principal Mark Winrow

I am truly delighted to be back on deck after my recent surgery. It was heart warming to be greeted by genuine concern and care by so many members of the community on my return. I must acknowledge the outstanding work of Kerry-Ann Reese who steered the ship so effectively in my absence. She is a real asset to our school.
Parent Teacher Interviews
It was wonderful to welcome a large majority of our parents on Wednesday night as they engaged in interviews with their child’s teacher. I am confident that all parents left with the reassurance that their child is known deeply and heavily supported in their learning and wellbeing by our professional team. Healthy, respectful relationships between home and school are an essential ingredient for students’ success. I must acknowledge the time our teachers invested in preparing for these interviews and thank those parents who prioritised the time to attend.
Additional Opportunities
We are acutely aware that school is about more than delivering curriculum. We also cherish our responsibility to create memories and opportunities beyond the classroom. Those who attended our parade this week, were treated to a magnificent performance by our choir and drum circle. They have been working on this piece during their own time with the support of Kat Boobyer and Eve Austen.
Earlier this term our community was also treated to performances by our school band and various ensembles. These performances showcased the work invested by each student and their teachers Hannah Baker and Hayley Frost.
This week each class has participated in an introductory rugby league skills program delivered by NRL Development Officers and organised by our HPE Teacher Warwick Cook. We have also arranged for our students to be offered the NRL League Stars program and AFL Auskick program after school next term.
Upcoming Blue Card System Changes
Please be aware of some upcoming changes to the blue card system which will impact school communities.
Blue card changes are coming from 20 September including:
- parent volunteers will require blue cards if:
- services or activities do not include their own child
- they attend overnight excursions or camps
- close personal contact may occur with another child (such as assisting with toileting, bathing or dressing)
- external businesses, such as those providing services in schools or to children, will need a blue card.
I would like to sign off by wishing all of our families a happy and safe holiday which brings you all closer together.

Thank You to our P&C and Student Council for Supporting Our School!
We are thrilled to share some exciting news – thanks to the incredible efforts of our P&C and Student Council, we will soon be enjoying cooled water bubblers at our school!
Our students will benefit greatly from having access to cool, refreshing water throughout the day, especially during the warmer months. This wonderful addition to our school would not have been possible without the hard work and generosity of our school community.
This term, our Student Council have been busy raising funds through a range of fun and engaging activities, including ice-block sales, PJ Day, and the always-popular Carbrook Carnival Day. These events not only helped raise vital funds but also brought our school community together in the spirit of teamwork and fun.
We also extend a huge thank you to our P&C for their ongoing commitment and support. Their partnership and contributions continue to make a meaningful difference to the experiences and opportunities we can offer our students.
Together, our P&C, Student Council, staff, students, and families have made this project a reality. We are so proud of what we have achieved as a community and can’t wait to see our new cooled water bubblers in action!
Life Education – Welcoming and Thriving in Puberty
Life Education Queensland, together with our school, is offering the specialised program, ‘Talk About It,’ focussing on sexual health and relationships, for students in Year 5 and 6 in Week 1 of Term 4, 8 and 9 October, 2025.
Life Education Queensland is at the forefront of child health and wellbeing. They are the state’s largest health promotion charity, providing age appropriate health and safety education to students from prep to high school. Find out more at www.lifeeducationqld.org.au.
The Talk About It program includes information on reproductive health incorporating growth and emotional changes associated with puberty, relationships and concept of self. It has been developed in response to the need for increased and consistent education in the areas of sexuality, identity and relationships and aligns with the latest Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum.
This informative program, will be run inside the classroom with the class teacher present. The program is designed to prepare young people for the changes and possible challenges they will experience during puberty and beyond. It provides the students with information on how to look after themselves and each other, during this important stage of their development.
The school recognises that you are the primary educator of your child on issues surrounding their physical, social and emotional health, however we believe we can work in partnership to help children stay safe and encourage healthy attitudes, coping strategies, and resilience and positive relationships.
The cost for your child to participate in this program is $13.
All payments and permission are to be submitted by
Tuesday 7 October 2025 in order for your child to attend this fantastic opportunity.

Street Science Incursion
On Thursday 18 September, our school was buzzing with excitement as Street Science visited, thanks to the generous support of our P&C and school funding. We were delighted to offer this incredible experience at no cost to our families, ensuring every student could take part.
The day was filled with hands-on, interactive learning as students enjoyed a dynamic show and workshop that brought science to life. With amazing demonstrations, fascinating experiments, and plenty of opportunities to get involved, students were inspired to think, question, and explore the world around them.
This event was a fantastic opportunity for our young learners to see science in action and to be motivated by the possibilities of discovery and innovation. It was truly one of the highlights of the term!
A huge thank you to our P&C for their ongoing support and for helping make this unforgettable experience a reality for every child at Carbrook.

Regional Strings Workshop
Congratulations to the four strings students whose families registered them to attend the level two, three and four regional strings workshops this term.
Gabriella and Zane took part in the two-day level two strings workshop, with Levi and Thayne (pictured) attending the two-day level three/four workshop.
The children were able to make friends with other strings players their age from across the region, while playing orchestral strings music appropriate to their level.
The concerts put on by the string orchestras at the conclusion of each workshop were both outstanding!! 😀
All instrumental students are encouraged to attend regional workshops that are offered as these are an invaluable opportunity for gaining orchestral playing experience with other students from across the region.
The events are organised and facilitated by QLD Education’s South East Region music department, with teachers and students from different schools in attendance.
Transport to and from workshops is a parent/carer responsibility. More strings workshops are being organised for next year.
Thank you, Ms Baker
